British literature is considered to be one of the most studied arts of all time. If a picture paints a thousand words, then an author certainly writes them. British literature refers to literature associated with the United Kingdom, although most of their works is written in the English language, you can find roots from foreign languages. In the Romantic period , poets like Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley, and Keats reflected the revolution and creative spirit of the age. We might not be big fans of how things are worded, but we can sure visualize the authors thoughts and expressions through their work.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about Greek Mythology and how we can relate to it in our own ways. From all the Greek heroes, we have specifically emphasized on Odysseus and how he had to prove himself to the gods over and over again. At the time of the Trojan war, before his return, Odysseus had to learn to overcome his weakness for food and sex. Using his wisdom as a guide he was able to keep his men alive and on the ship when they had to confront the sirens, in which these beautiful women would lure them in with their astonishing voices.
Odysseus is most famous for his Trojan horse trick where he was able to successfully bring Greek soldiers in the city of Troy. He used his intelligence to build a giant wooden horse as a trophy to the Trojans for their 'victory". Some say the idea of the horse trick is believed to be inspired by a falcon who was on the hunt for a pigeon, and after trying and trying, he decided to falsify his departure to trick the pigeon into coming out of his hiding spot. After taking this concept, Odysseus gathered his best men and the towns craftsmen to go forth with his plan. Without doubt, this is one of the most successful planned assaults of all time.
Literature is used to describe anything from creative writing to more
technical or scientific works, but the term is most commonly used to
refer to works of the creative imagination, including works of poetry,
drama, fiction, and nonfiction. Whatever critical grammar we use to discuss and analyze literature,
there is still an artistic quality to the works. Literature is important
to us because it speaks to us, it is universal, and it affects us. Even
when it is ugly, literature is beautiful.
In the world of literature, many authors go unrecognized for their poetry until after they pass away. Authors like William Blake which took approximately 100 years to get recognized, was first seen as a madman for his point of views and his writing. Other writers like William Shakespeare will never be forgotten because they play an important role in poetry and the many different styles of writing. Literature helps to add culture to readers lives, which in turn has an effect on society. It helps people to really get an in depth view of life in someone else's shoes. Its like you get to live in another world while reading a book.

The romantics period was an intellectual movement that originated in Europe and reached it's peak in the 1800's. The early period of the Romantic Era was a time of war, with the French Revolution followed by the Napoleonic wars
until 1815. These wars, along with the political and social turmoil
that went along with them, served as the background for Romanticism. In English literature, the group of poets considered the key figures of the Romantic movement includes William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and the much older William Blake, followed later by the isolated figure of John Clare. Unlike Germany, Romanticism in English literature had little connection
with nationalism, and the Romantics were often regarded with suspicion
for the sympathy many felt for the ideals of the French revolution.
Literature has been advancing through time like technology has now a days. We have been witnesses of the many authors that have made a difference and have influenced the start of a new period. Throughout time, we have encountered the many types of Romanticism beginning with dark romantics and the late romantics advancing to Realism before the introduction of modern art. The difference between the literature used now and the literature used in the time of any given period differs greatly among the language. Scholars can now determine the era of the artwork by analyzing no more than how a scientist would determine the age of a dinosaur fossil. As time passes we manage to learn more about the past yet still have time to create and advance as a society. This leaves no doubt that the generations in the future will be a more smarter and wiser set of people because society will never stop progressing.
From my point of view, literature is very important in our lives. It can help us have a great imagination as well as to give us the chance to identify ourselves with the characters in the stories we
read and they can give us some clues to solve our problems and how to
react in certain circumstances. Books are inspired from reality because
even if authors are considered to be somehow different from common
people, they are in fact preoccupied by the same problems as we all are
and suffer like us, too. I would like to add that literature is the perfect
means to enrich our culture, to express correctly and have a rich
vocabulary, to be able to interfere in conversations in different fields
of interest and to really be considered an erudite person.
