1500 word essay

British literature is considered to be one of the most studied arts of all time. If a picture paints a thousand words, then an author certainly writes them. British literature refers to literature associated with the United Kingdom, although most of their works is written in the English language, you can find roots from foreign languages. In the Romantic period , poets like Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley, and Keats reflected the revolution and creative spirit of the age. We might not be big fans of how things are worded, but we can sure visualize the authors thoughts and expressions through their work.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about Greek Mythology and how we can relate to it in our own ways. From all the Greek heroes, we have specifically emphasized on Odysseus and how he had to prove himself to the gods over and over again. At the time of the Trojan war, before his return, Odysseus had to learn to overcome his weakness for food and sex. Using his wisdom as a guide he was able to keep his men alive and on the ship when they had to confront the sirens, in which these beautiful women would lure them in with their astonishing voices.
Odysseus is most famous for his Trojan horse trick where he was able to successfully bring Greek soldiers in the city of Troy. He used his intelligence to build a giant wooden horse as a trophy to the Trojans for their 'victory". Some say the idea of the horse trick is believed to be inspired by a falcon who was on the hunt for a pigeon, and after trying and trying, he decided to falsify his departure to trick the pigeon into coming out of his hiding spot. After taking this concept, Odysseus gathered his best men and the towns craftsmen to go forth with his plan. Without doubt, this is one of the most successful planned assaults of all time.
Literature is used to describe anything from creative writing to more technical or scientific works, but the term is most commonly used to refer to works of the creative imagination, including works of poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction. Whatever critical grammar we use to discuss and analyze literature, there is still an artistic quality to the works. Literature is important to us because it speaks to us, it is universal, and it affects us. Even when it is ugly, literature is beautiful.
In the world of literature, many authors go unrecognized for their poetry until after they pass away. Authors like William Blake which took approximately 100 years to get recognized, was first seen as a madman for his point of views and his writing. Other writers like William Shakespeare will never be forgotten because they play an important role in poetry and the many different styles of writing. Literature helps to add culture to readers lives, which in turn has an effect on society. It helps people to really get an in depth view of life in someone else's shoes. Its like you get to live in another world while reading a book.
The romantics period was an intellectual movement that originated in Europe and reached it's peak in the 1800's. The early period of the Romantic Era was a time of war, with the French Revolution followed by the Napoleonic wars until 1815. These wars, along with the political and social turmoil that went along with them, served as the background for Romanticism. In English literature, the group of poets considered the key figures of the Romantic movement includes William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and the much older William Blake, followed later by the isolated figure of John Clare. Unlike Germany, Romanticism in English literature had little connection with nationalism, and the Romantics were often regarded with suspicion for the sympathy many felt for the ideals of the French revolution.
Literature has been advancing through time like technology has now a days. We have been witnesses of the many authors that have made a difference and have influenced the start of a new period. Throughout time, we have encountered the many types of Romanticism beginning with dark romantics and the late romantics advancing to Realism before the introduction of modern art. The difference between the literature used now and the literature used in the time of any given period differs greatly among the language. Scholars can now determine the era of the artwork by analyzing no more than how a scientist would determine the age of a dinosaur fossil. As time passes we manage to learn more about the past yet still have time to create and advance as a society. This leaves no doubt that the generations in the future will be a more smarter and wiser set of people because society will never stop progressing.
From my point of view, literature is very important in our lives. It can help us have a great imagination as well as to give us the chance to identify ourselves with the characters in the stories we read and they can give us some clues to solve our problems and how to react in certain circumstances. Books are inspired from reality because even if authors are considered to be somehow different from common people, they are in fact preoccupied by the same problems as we all are and suffer like us, too. I would like to add that literature is the perfect means to enrich our culture, to express correctly and have a rich vocabulary, to be able to interfere in conversations in different fields of interest and to really be considered an erudite person.

Dear Cola

Dear Cola,
Hi cola my name is Butter and I have my own flat Stanley character. His name is Jack Jalapeno and he enjoys having fun all the time. Just this weekend Jack and I went to the park to play on the swings and build an extraordinary sand castle where everyone can come and join us for fun and games. It wasn’t long before it got dark and it was time to go home. For every fun day, you must get a good rest at night because without a good rest, you won’t have enough energy to keep up with your flat Stanley! Jack and I are planning to go to the place where dreams come true, Disneyland. Once we arrive there’s no limit to the amount of fun we can have. Just imagine all the fun rides, the good food, and all the Disney characters like Mickey and goofy at our presence.
There’s so much I can tell you about Jack Jalapeno. His favorite color is orange, his favorite food is spaghetti, and his favorite game is hide and seek. Every day is an adventure between us. We wake up and run around the house, we play board games like monopoly, and when it’s time to go eat, we race to the table and see who is faster. Although it’s very fun to play with your flat Stanley, you must remember your responsibilities when you’re with him. Jack likes to have fun but he knows that he has to behave well or else he won’t be able to play. Your flat Stanley loves you so much and he most importantly loves when you behave well and play right.
Well that’s the story of my flat Stanley and I. We love you so much cola, we would love to see you here in Los Angeles so we can all gather around and play in the park and hope for you to experience what we experience when we were in the park having fun. We hope to hear a response from you soon :)

                                                                                                         Sincerely,
                                                                                                             Butter Spice

The condition of Los Angeles

Los Angeles, the home of many people, is a great city but with lost hope. We live in a city where people try to make a living with anything they can which can consciously hurt others. When people sell pirated movies, fake Gucci bags , or illegal identification cards, they hurt everyone economically and put a dirty name on our city. The people of Los Angeles let the media affect how they socialize when they are out on the streets. When people from all over the world think of Los Angeles, they think of Hollywood and brad Pitt when in reality all we have is dirty streets and gang violance. In reality, one person can't make a difference, but it can be the start of a whole nother revolution. People capitalize on their own needs rather than the needs of the city. This city could use some cleaning and regulations to put a stop and how we are "progressing" in society. I hope to one day wake up and see all the familiar faces I see in the bus stop, but instead of frowns and Previous signs of depression, to see smiles willingness on people's faces.

Personification essay - im a verizon wireless customer

I am an interested person. i go looking for the best of whats out there. I am given the best of whats out there. I am on a reliable network. I love communicating with people. I have options but i must choose wisely for i must stick to my decision for two years. I can go to many locations and stay in touch with my loved ones. I can go to many of the store locations for help. With such speeds, i can connect all my devices to it and take advantage of its current prices. I'm concerned about how fast the company is progressing because there's new devices coming out every time i check the website. I'm always being entertained by the propaganda and commercials of these companies that have competitive prices and a variety of products. I live in a society where faster and slimmer are the best way to attract people to their stores.

Reading Autobiography

Reading goes back to when i was a child. when i was small, i didn't do much reading. Like every other child, games and toys were always the greatest source of entertainment. However, i often liked being read to. children stories were the best with novels like: the three little pigs, the Cuban and the mouse, and everyone's favorite,  the missing pencil. Although when you're a child, a book with pictures is always more entertaining than educational books with words. Many of children's books today have the same plot. It starts off with the characters names and features, then it goes straight to the plot, where everything always seems to go wrong. However, at end of the story, everything turns out to be perfectly fine.
as the years go by, it goes from being the listener to being the reader. as you move on to the next grade, you get tested on your reading skills and eventually it becomes easy to read a 300 page book. Reading has a big influence on who we are because it is what shapes our writing, speech, and how we compose essays. Now, as a high school student, essays are considered to be our best "friend". when it comes to grading and other writing test, the more words you have, the more educated you appear to be. its always good to make a great first impression, that is why i often practice reading to better my skills. I must not forget that it becomes a requirement when attending college level classes or universities.
In school, it is recommended that you read at home. in fact, it is my homework to read 30 minutes and write a paragraph about what i read. although i have fallen behind on my work, i can always make it up since we have been mentally trained to pull off these kind of tasks. i give thanks to the government who make it easy to access books through public library's, not to mention our school library. It comes to my attention that although we are having economic problems with the schools budget cut system, we are not able to access the library on a daily basis. it would be more convenient to the students who are known as "tomorrows future" , to have access to our basic necessities . that is my personal opinion, yet it does not need to be an opinion to make a required change that shapes the way students choose to route their future.

stand up speak out

Being gay is a personal choice, like picking juice over milk. in 2004, 4% of the worlds population was gay. that percent has been increasing over the years to a point where it has become noticeable. in 2012, the Mayan calender predicts there will be a big change in the world. with the gay population increasing dramatically there is no doubt that the big change will be the birth of a new life style. when we think of progress we think of improvement of society over a long period of time, but how is being gay a progression in society? well, its not. having two males or females together means not reproducing. while the gay population is increasing, the human population will be decreasing. eventually there will be less people and it will decrease jobs and companies will soon shut down. the price for food will increase and without reproducing, the world will end for us humans. maybe that's what the Mayans have predicted for us.

face book essay

Over the past years, there have been a lot of controversial issues about one’s post in their cyber profiles. There have been cases of identity theft, harassment, or simply the key to ending someone’s career. People tend to post pictures or comments that can be demeaning to them or to others under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The thing with cyber profiles is that whatever you post on them, people will be able to see it weather your friends or not. The root of this starts the moment you add people you don’t know or how you choose to administrate the privacy settings. When creating a facebook profile you must agree to the terms and services of the web page where many people fail to comply.
To prove my previous statement stating how people add other people they don’t know, I’ve created a facebook profile with my computer. In less than five minutes I created the profile with detailed information. In less than 24 hours I had conquered the friendship of over a hundred people that I have never met before. Once I become friends I can get around the privacy settings and see more detailed information about who these people are. I have gained access to: their photos, education and work, philosophy, activities and interest, and most importantly, their contact information. This proves how easily they can set themselves up for scams by the simple click of a button. Only about three percent bothered to write a message back asking who I was. I believe people should be more cautious of who they add as friends in their cyber profile.
People have gotten in trouble for their actions on facebook. In the popular case of Key v. Robertson, 2009 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 51092, a second year law student recorded the law school chancellor scratching the side of his head and posted it on YouTube.  When paused at the right time, it looked like the chancellor was giving the middle finger.  The student then took a screen shot of the video clip and made it his profile picture on Facebook. He got in trouble and he was given the option to post an apology but the student chose to fight back. Many people make decisions to feel accepted in which can lead them to trouble. There have been people who post pictures of them doing drugs, drinking alcohol, and even holding up a weapon. There is other people who think it’s a good thing to post gang related stuff that leads to really big issues.
You must always be aware of what you post on your profile and you should think about the consequences after your post. Facebook has lead to the death of Tracey Grinhaff and  her husband Gary Grinhaff. Tracey had posted on her profile that she was "currently splitting" from her husband. She added: "Been married for 16 years but together for 26!!!! God that makes me sound old." That outraged her husband leading him to kill her and shoving her in the shed of the backyard. Cops found Gary’s body out in the woods where he committed suicide. This is a perfect example of how people post something without the consent of what will happen next. Sometimes people just feel like its right when they post stuff but later try to delete it but the damage has been done. This is why I feel people should think twice about what they do and they should follow the rules given on the terms and services at the beginning.

Winter Break

For Winter break, I stayed mostly at home because it was raining for the first week and a half. At first, every hour seemed to be a day’s worth of time. We had a great Christmas though. My whole family got together and celebrated with lots of food. Although the rain left later on, it was still noticeably cold and cloudy. For new years we once again got together and watched the countdown on the big screen. We needed the help of some entertainment to keep us up, so that’s where the games came in. As the clock was counting down, we all got prepared and raised our champagne glasses. Once the clock hit twelve, we all cheered and toasted for the New Year with such joy. After New Year’s, nine days separated my vacation and the long awaited first day of school. We spent the last couple of days watching movies and enjoying our time off. What seemed to be nine days, actually felt like hours. It was Monday, the first day of school, and our first assignment was to write a short essay about our winter break. This winter assignment essay happens to be the one you are currently reading. Once I finished writing the draft of our essay, the teacher went around grading and proof reading our essays. Then it was time to publish and print our essay. So this is it; my winter break assignment.

What is an American?

An American is a person who has rights, lives under a stabled government, and has the freedom of speech. Americans have the right to express themselves how ever they want; in which does not affect the lives of others for the worse. In America they don’t discriminate you by your religion or where you come from. America is a capitalist country where depending what job you work, your check can come in different sizes. In America, everyone has the right to go to college and get an education. I, myself, am a son of immigrants who came to this country looking for opportunities and a better life. Many people do not succeed and get killed trying to fulfill their dreams by making it to the other side; the US. As I walk back home I spot the numerous amounts of churches of different religions and I think to myself; freedom.

Allot has passed to get to the America in which we are now. We had to go through our independence, the civil war, reconstruction, etc. All these events lead to a place where everyone can get along having equal rights. But one major issue that contradicts our constitution, is the simple part that states the government will not choose one religion over another. Yet we seem to have a thing for Christianity. We have come to a point where we have involved god in the US currency, the pledge of allegiance, etc. On the dollar bill, we have placed the words "In God We Trust" not thinking it will hurt or contradict other religions with more than one god. In the pledge of allegiance, we placed the words "One Nation, Under God" which again can contradict other religions such as ones who don’t believe in god who are known as "Atheist". Also when the president swears over the nation, he puts his hand on the Christian bible. Which opens up the discussion of John F. Kennedy's death; was it because he was a roman catholic? I don’t think its fair for the government to favor a religion no matter how popular it is practiced in the nation. Although not many people seem to care or notice the importance of this arguement, there is still people who get offended but their thoughts and opinions are not enough.

When we come to think of it, the American dream consist of having a great life. I think the American dream is to own a nice house, a nice car, a good paying job, and ofcourse, a great family. So my perspective, on what is an American, is a person who has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Academic Autobiography

NOTE: The names of the people have been changed to protect their identities.

I went to magnolia avenue elementary school, located on Magnolia and Venice Street. From what i remembered, Mrs. Placed, my kindergarten teacher, was the best. We would sing and dance and gather around for story time. I remember repeating the second grade for a weird reason. In the third grade i was bringing home good grades, pure 4's and 3's. In firth grade i had the coolest teacher ever. Her name was Ms. Understood and she would do videos which were presented to the whole school. For junior high i went to Berendo middle school, located on Berendo and 12th street. I was not used to having six classes with all different subjects. I think my favorite class was service because it gave you the authority to walk around and deliver packages that had to be delivered to classes. Sometimes they would let me out early depending on how the day went. My favorite teacher there was Mrs. Informed because not only was she my homeroom teacher, but she was also my science teacher. Well one of the reasons why i went to Berendo Middle school was because it was the closest middle school around my house. I remember receiving lots of certificates for outstanding job throughout my years as a middle school kid.

After middle school, i went and still am going to West Adams high school, located on Vermont and Washington. Here i found it better not having six classes anymore. Now i only had to worry about four classes which were an hour and a half long. I found it better to go in at 8:30 rather than the old 7:30. I started my first four classes of ninth grade with: Biology, Algebra 1, Physical Education, and life skills. I think that my Biology teacher Ms. Behavior, was the best teacher yet to come because she would explain everything very well. My homeroom teacher Ms. Calculated, would always make us watch some movies about the economic crisis and the struggles in south American countries. In the tenth grade i had geometry, world history, physical education and health. My world history teacher was cool because she was easy to understand in all her lessons. My geometry teacher, Ms. Fired, would explain things differently and was allot harder to understand, especially when she gave the class homework. And now i am in the eleventh grade and my classes are: US Literature, US history, Algebra 2, and Video production in which we watch movies every Friday but work through out the week. In US literature we write allot, like what i am doing now. And in US history, i have the same teacher that i had in my last years world history class, Ms. Fit. She is still a cool teacher and tries to make every subject as cool as possible. For now, i am looking forward to graduate and walk on stage. All i have is one more year and i will be done with high school.

How it feels to be funny me

We live  in an age where humor has become the medicine for depression and other problems. It is what starts relationships with others that you quite not met before. Sometimes it is the key role to success or a happy family. Up to now i have used humor and it has kept me going making new friends and establishing connections with people of all ages. In some of my classes, for example, I'm known as the class clown giving me the strength to dominate humor in the minds of others. Sometimes all i need is a smile from someone which lets me know, the job is done. In regards to my love life, i have gotten over half of my girlfriends with humor; the rest was from good looks.

Every day is a journey to success. While on the bus, i start to recognize the daily people. Then i realize how a simple smile can lead to a conversation. And if you involve humor in the conversation, you become friends. After being friends you decide to go on a date. After the date you become boyfriend and girlfriend. Then you get married and establish your own family. And all this was because of a humorous smile on a daily bus. Eventually you owe it all to humor because boring conversations won't take you very far. And who knows, maybe when we think of it, our parents met through humor. Without it i probably would not be here publishing this post.

A human speech is directly responsible for almost every thought and emotion we have throughout life's journey. The complexity of language and the complex messages we use it to communicate leave the possibilities wide open for just about anything. Among other things, people can say things that are funny. We pay good money to see comedians say funny things, and a lot of them come through. But due to the nature of the human common sense, the deliberateness of a comedian can dilute the potential for humor. That is why the human brain is so interesting because it is capable of translating multiple emotions at the same time.

I can actually Quite say that i enjoy being defined as the "funny one"  or the "class clown". But as a matter of fact, everyone has humor inside that keeps them going; but not many people express their humor and tend to look at it as an inside joke. I believe that everyone has the right to express their way of thinking because that makes you unique. So i say to you readers and followers, take a bite of knowledge, and like the old song goes, "Express yourself". Thank you...
